Burnouts are mostly work related or school related, meaning that they experience mental or physical exhaustion. This syndrome can often lead to extreme fatigue. Fatigue is a state when you’re severely tired and lack energy that doesn’t leave and interferes with your activities during the day. The physical issues about this is you can get headaches, and your muscles can stiffen, since you’re doing the same thing every day.
APA researchers found out that about 79% of all workers in America have experienced burnout. The psychology behind these burnouts are when you’re being overworked and have too much to do, like your daily activities. When having a burnout, you often drop your performances since you’ve been doing so much. According to EBSCO, “A study from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) published in 2026 found that over 70% think that the burn out is from work.” This quote shows how a large amount of adults are being overworked and have to suffer with this syndrome because of their job.
People with burnouts can also suffer joint pain. This means if you work in front of a computer all day, you would basically be doing nothing besides your job. This is the reason why some adults experience burnout, it’s because they’re just on one thing all day long. When you’re overworked you can often experience brain fog, according to Cleveland health clinic, “physical, emotional or mental exhaustion, accompanied by decreased motivation, lowered performance and negative attitudes toward oneself and others.” This shows how being overworked can lower your performance, and when lowering your performance that often leads to job loss.
EBSCO also states, “insufficient managerial support and communication; unreasonable workloads, expectations, and time pressures; and treatment viewed as unjust were also found to be major contributors to burnout”. This means that managers should be helping their employees. The same goes for some teachers. They should help some of their students out if they both notice burnout, because burnout can lead to extreme tiredness and annoyance, which can lead to quitting or dropping out of school. It’s important that you should watch your anxiety and stress levels because if your stress levels are high when you’re just working, even when you try to better yourself by sleeping a bit more early and still feel the same, you’re probably experiencing a burnout.
