Q:  I am a Junior and I am starting to think about where I want to go to college.  How can the College & Career Center help me?

A:  It is great that you are thinking ahead and exploring your options for college.  The College & Career Center (H-109) is open from 7:45 am-3:00 pm during the week.  You can come by to begin exploring the many colleges in-state and out-of-state.  Additionally, the Center has college and universities visiting the BHS campus throughout the year, so that you can talk with the college representatives and ask them questions. The Center also provides college guidance counseling, assessments, scholarship information, internships, workshops and volunteer opportunities.

Q:  How important is it for students to have volunteer and community service hours?  Do colleges and universities consider that when reviewing applications?

A:  Volunteer and community service hours are very important for students to have for a couple of reasons. First, it is important to be good community citizens and give back to our City of Benicia.  Additionally, colleges and universities, especially the UC system and the private, non-profit colleges and universities, view the “whole student” through their Personal Statements, where students can reflect upon their volunteer and community service experiences, that many times can help them in getting into the college, or university of their choice.
