Tyson Wallace, the two sport, seventeen-year-old, athlete has been named Times Herald Athlete of the Week. Wallace, a senior at Benicia High School, has been on fire since the 2021 Football season kicked off. Starting off hot against Pinole Valley in week one, winning at an absurd score of 62-6, Wallace led BHS with 7 completions in 9 attempts and racking up a total of 135 passing yards.
It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows though–Benicia took a hard loss against Clayton Valley with the total score being 48-0. Wallace had a rough game with only 72 yards, as well as his first interception of the year.
Wallace bounced back quickly the following week against Jesse Bethel, leading the Panthers to a 42-0 win. He put up great numbers with an impressive 14 of 17 passes completed for 153 yards, with two touchdowns and running for 82 yards.
But this “Athlete of the Week” does not just limit himself to football. Wallace looks forward to the spring, playing his main sport: baseball. Wallace traveled all over this last summer, including Arizona, and made many other out of state appearances.
Tyson currently has a college offer from Division III, St. Norbert’s College, located in Wisconsin. For baseball he has offers from Cal State Bakersfield and Hawaii.
When asked which sport he intended to commit to, Wallace explained,“I’m not really sure right now. It’s a tough decision since football is really in my heart too. I’ve talked to a few schools about possibly playing football and baseball. It will be hard to choose.”
