*SPOILERS AHEAD*
To the uninitiated, DCeased may not ring a bell, but to fans of the series it sparks a feeling of excitement as one of the most well received comic book series. Taking place in an alternate universe where a sudden zombie outbreak causes chaos and hysteria among heroes and villains alike, DCeased set itself apart by completely subverting expectations and boasting a very intriguing and entertaining story.
DCeased began in 2019, with a new variant of the familiar Anti-Life Equation being the main catalyst for the undead mayhem that would ensue. Writer Tom Taylor pulled no punches when writing the story and developing the plot. Within the first few issues, most of our beloved Justice League has been brutally killed and/or turned into zombies. The result was a unique lineup of sidekicks and secondary characters becoming the world’s last hope for survival.
Due to the success of this series, it continued on, becoming more and more mind blowing. The series eventually reached its climax with DCeased: Dead Planet. This was where we left off, and now, DC has announced the final chapter that will conclude the epic story of DCeased: War of the Undead Gods! According to DC, the next villain in line will be none other than an undead Darkseid!
““What began as a battle for Earth has become a war for the galaxy! The emergence of a reborn, undead Darkseid in DCeased: Dead Planet sets the stage for the most devastating conflict yet…”
“You’re going to see that unliving Darkseid infected all the new gods and now we have a war against the undead gods across the cosmos.” said Taylor in a comic trailer filmed by DC. Taylor continued to talk about lots of different characters we will likely see in the upcoming series, and ended the trailer by saying “Don’t get attached to anyone.”
We are also guaranteed to see lots of incredible art from illustrator Trevor Hairsine, who in the same trailer said: “Basically every page that I draw I’m going “Oh wow! Okay, that’s happening.” The series so far has featured lots of gory and magnificent illustrations and hopefully, much more to come.
If you are as excited as I am then you will probably want to know when this will be coming out.
The first issue will be released August 9th, 2022 according to an article by DC. “This eight-issue monthly limited series arrives in comic book stores and participating digital platforms on Tuesday, August 9.”
Undoubtedly, the conclusion to this legendary series will be full of awesome artwork, visceral storytelling, and shocks and twists that will be nothing short of mindblowing.
