There are 5 things an athlete needs to be able to succeed, called “The 5Cs” these 5Cs athletes/coaches need is commitment, communication, concentration, control, and confidence. All of these characteristics are very important in sports and athletes are going to need them to excel in sports. Here is why following the 5C rule is important and will help you perform better in sports.
- Commitment
Commitment is very important and matters because it is vital to mental toughness. It’s good to be committed to something that can help you think about if you want to continue doing a sport for college.
- Communication
Communication is the key to sports because it helps you recognize and read the field/court. It helps you get a different perspective on evaluating whatever you have to execute. If you are in a game, communicating with your teammates helps understand what the next move is.
- Concentration
When you are concentrated while doing a sport, it allows the ability to focus attention on the task at hand and when you are concentrated it changes how you perform and put yourself out there.
- Control
Control in sports means keeping control whether it’s where you are going, what you are doing, etc. Control is a big part of sports because if you lose control then depending what sport you are doing, you could get in trouble or hurt.
- Confidence
Confidence is a big part of sports and a very important one because confidence most of the time determines how you play. Over 80-90% of athletes play better in sports when they are confident in themselves.
All of these 5Cs are very important for when playing sports and will help you excel and perform 10x better. Malani Manto, a student at Benicia High states “When I have commitment, communication, concentration, control, and confidence, I feel like I do play better and when I do not follow the 5C rule I usually do a little worse.”
